Director Gus Van Sant’s “Milk” is the story of San Francisco city supervisor and gay rights activist Harvey Milk. Milk first moved to California from New York City in the late Sixties, and eventually opened a camera store on Castro Street in 1972. The store would become the headquarters for his political campaigns, known for their disorganization, Milk’s ability to bring together diverse coalitions, and his theatrics and impassioned speeches. He and San Francisco mayor George Moscone were assassinated on November 27, 1978 by former colleague Dan White.
The “Milk” DVD contains the 128 minute feature film, three documentaries totaling over half an hour in runtime, and delete scenes.
Sean Penn took home the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Milk; writer Dustin Lance Black also won an Academy Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. The film received six additional Academy nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Josh Brolin, who played the part of White.
This single disc Harvey Milk DVD is also available on Blu-ray.
