The Polyphonic Spree
The Quest for the Rest
Okay people. We've got a seriously cool band here. Firstly I have
to admit - I haven't head of The Polyphonic Spree until
I spoke to our genius artist - JAKUB DVORSKÝ (the creator
of samorost). Jakub was hired
to develop a game similar to his previous pieces, as a part of the
promotional campaign and in support to the band's new album and
tour titled: Together We're Heavy.
There were no major suprises - the game fully met all my expectations.
Beautiful graphics, distinctive European animation style and quirky
puzzles made to be entertaining enough but not too hard to solve.
Personally I would have appreciated a slightly higher level of difficulty.
On the brighter side, however, the easy game-play leaves more focus
on the artistic value of this multimedia masterpiece. The Quest
for the Rest is rich in ambiental sound and tunes composed
by the Polyphonic Spree which perfectly match the style of the game.
For instance the very first scene of the game has this breath-taking
atmosphere somewhat similar to the work of Salvadore Dali himself.
Pitty this game only has four screens of which three are the actual
puzzles. Keeping in mind this is a promotional multimedia tool rather
than a full game I am inclined to give this one a rating of four
out of five.
As for The Polyphonic Spree - they've done a real good move by
producing this piece. I absolutely fell in love with the ambience
their music created in this game. Now if you excuse me, I'm off
to grab a copy of their CD!
