First year performance of the IceCube neutrino telescope |
The first sensors of the IceCube neutrino observatory were deployed at the South Pole during the austral summer of 2004–2005 and have been producing data since February 2005. One string of 60 sensors buried in the ice and a surface array of eight ice Cherenkov tanks took data until December 2005 when deployment of the next set of strings and tanks began. We have analyzed these data, demonstrating that the performance of the system meets or exceeds design requirements. Times are determined across the whole array to a relative precision of better than 3 ns, allowing reconstruction of muon tracks and light bursts in the ice, of air-showers in the surface array and of events seen in coincidence by surface and deep-ice detectors separated by up to 2.5 km.

VIRTUAL LASER KEYBOARD (Bluetooth) |
We simply couldn't resist!
Yes, we bought one for our latest NOKIA toy phone (video you are about to see was taken with the phone) and have also paired it with the Laser BlueTooth USB adapter on a Windows PC machine.
THE FUTURE IS NOW factor is very stimulating while writing or performing electronic music. We haven't trialed it at a live gig yet, but you can imagine how cool it would look, especially at a smaller and more intimate IDM performance. The device is amazingly small and it would comfortably fit in your pocket. Charging time is reasonable and the battery life should last you enough for a good music session. To get a better glimpse of how it works see the video |

This happened on our trip to Belgrade in September 2006. As I finished the drink, I noticed this strangely seahorse-like piece of lemon stuck on the glass. Sooooo... Analogik!

Jupiter in a cup. |

I've found a beautiful
close-up photo of Jupiter's red spot. I asked DRi what he thinks
about it and he replied: "Not greater or less beautiful than
a swirl of paint in a cup." - "I love fractals - they
are amazing." he added. So here it is. Believe it or not that
IS Jupiter inside of this (originally empty) cup. Click picture

If we think about our brain in computer terms, it would be something
like a combination of CPU, RAM and MASS STOGARE (eg. hard disk).
Early stages of brain development in children are very closely
related to how we percieve the world around us today. Depending
on how the neuron connections bind together we have many possible
brain structures and configurations.
Some are more efficient - some are not. Some are optimised for
creative processes and some for logic and math operations.
Now, does this mean that our talents and abilities are closely
related to our childhood? Some will agree some will disagree.
I believe that brain functions can be described as a complex set
of layers of processes: thoughts, motoric actions (motion), coordination,
consciousness, dream, outside world inputs (temperature, tactile,
smell, visual, audio, taste), reason, sense of existance, calculations,
decisions, creativity, emotions and many more.
The question is how many of these can we pull through our mental
pipeline without jamming it?
This is a very individual thing and depends on how well optimised
our brain is. It all depends on neural connections - but also on
set of mental and deep brain processes that run us, like an operating
system runs hardware (eg. windows - IBM computer).
In order to assist someone who has difficulties with multiple mental
processes (often very creative, intelligent and motivated people)
we need to explain them how it all works.
I suggest to all those who take interest in this field to do a
bit of a research on neuropsycology. It's quite an exciting science.
Once you figure out what's happening beneath and how it all functions
you might gain the ability to intelligently resolve all your conflicts
and problems in regards to the brain bandwidth and its optimal use.
Hope you find this text useful and inspiring.

Waking Life, the movie. |

Waking life is one of the most innovative and freshest movies released
in last few years. The movie is deep, phylosophical and extremely
mind-engaging. Do not expect action, or you'll be dissapointed.
Waking Life is all about those inner thoughts we all have but no
one bothers to articulate them.
At times it's quite hard to categorise this piece of art. Essentially
it's both, animation and a movie at the same time.
Waking Life has been filmed and and then processed through rotoscopy
which gave the movie that unique vector-like animation style. Drawing
concepts are are seamlessly connected to various scenes and ideas
they represent, and what's interesting is that there is no one unique
animation style.
While you watch this movie, make sure you're absolutely focused
and listen carefully, there are so many ideas and thoughts the authors
are trying to communicate that it would be shame to miss any. Again,
Waking Life is not your usual action-packed film you watch eating
popcorn in a noisy room full of people. It truly is a piece of art. |

Duality, Spacetime and Quantum Mechanics |
In the last few years, physicists have learned that the different
string theories discovered and studied in different ways are limiting
cases of a single, more powerful theory, known as M theory. "M"
stands for magic, mystery, or matrix, according to taste. Some of
these developments will be explained in this lecture.
