The End of the Slaughterhouse and the Lab Grown Meat

meatScientists have finally found a cost-effective way to produce lab-grown meat that tastes the same or better than the real thing. This welcome announcement comes at a time when meat is at a premium. Ever since the drought of 2042, parched grazing lands have been decimated by devastating fires. Only the wealthiest citizens can afford the high cost of a pound of ground beef. Steak is a luxury reserved only for the privileged few. Ordinary people must subsist on the nutrients that can be derived from the bones and offal from the slaughterhouse.

50 Volunteers to Settle in the Asteroid Belt

Alpha-CentauriOfficials with the Global Alliance for Scientific Space Exploration and Research announced today that 50 volunteers will be selected for mankind’s first settlement in the asteroid belt. GASSER director Frederick Elliaon stated the project represents humanity’s most far reaching endeavor yet, coming on the heels of the successful colonization of Jupiter’s moon, Titan.

With the Titan population now numbering nearly 250,000, Ellison stated his organization is ready to move forward and reach farther as man continues to conquer the Solar System if not yet the stars. But this move will put the Alliance within galactic shouting distance of GASSER’s long term goal of establishing a base on Neptune, considered to be essential to the dream of reaching out into the stars.

Population Reaches 20b – Are we out of room?

Mars_Earth_ComparisonAccording to a recent world census, the population of human inhabitants on earth has exceeded 20 billion individuals. UN estimates from the beginning of the millennium record a population of nearly seven billion inhabitants, which means that in roughly two centuries, the number of humans has nearly tripled. In 2202, a world census was undertaken to fully assess the total population in order to begin to address the problems of energy and resource depletion due to overcrowding.

A combination of factors has led to the population explosion that has left governments struggling to meet the needs of the people. The international ban on contraception and abortion enacted in the 21st century led to rapid population growth, followed by a severe economic depression as governments strained to deal with a growing and aging society. The following century brought scientific breakthroughs that revolutionized modern medicine. Average life expectancy rose to 120 years or more. The combination of high birth rates coupled with reduced death rates has brought the world to the tipping point in terms of population size.

Making A Home On The Moon

full-moonWe’ve read about for generations, and it’s all come from science fiction novels. Now, after 9 years of development and fabrication, Project Genesis, the construction of the first lunar base, is becoming a reality. Throughout this past year, in conjunction with the Russian space program, modules of the base have been delivered to the lunar surface. With the last piece of the structure touching down today, delivered by the shuttle Airostar, construction is said to commence at once.

Australian led scientists and Brigham Aerospace joined forces with NASA in the development and construction of the Luna Gaia. This self contained base will be the anchor for the future expansion and colonization of the moon, as well as a launching point for further space travel.

The site chosen for the base is within the Mare Nubium, or Sea of Clouds. It was picked for its location to ice found during the LCROSS lunar-impact probe from 2010, http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/water-moon-nasa-impact-probe/story?id=11939079#.TtzWCErw87A. It also allows room for expansion within the northern mares.

Siemens Unveils First Artificial Gravity Device

gravity(MUNICH, Germany – August 8, 2071) German multi-national industrial giant Siemens today announced from their Munich headquarters the successful final testing of their promised artificial gravity device or AGD. A company official commented, “The first-generation AGD is designed as a wheelbarrow without wheels.” In a press release Siemens promised release of the device to the market sometime in Q1 of next year. They state that the artificial gravity device will be “the greatest labor saving machine ever invented.”

The AGD design purportedly uses principles derived from the physics of quantum mechanics. A source close to the project said, “It uses the theoretical higher dimensions by shifting the effect of the load into those dimensions. It will be like carrying a cargo of bricks that weighs nothing.”

Teenager Mathematician Proposes Theory For Artificial Gravity

Gemini_11_AgenaThere has been much speculation over the years about artificial gravity, how to produce it and what it’s going to be used for. But now, teenage mathematician Maxwell Weisenberg has developed a formula that takes artificial gravity out of the realm of speculation and puts it firmly in realistic expectations.

Weisenberg, who at 15 is the youngest ever undergraduate at esteemed Boston-based university TPUV (Theory, Possibility, Understanding and Verification), has proposed that by the year 2027 artificial gravity will be in the hands of the most esteemed theoretical physicists in the world. Space travel will be more functional, which in turn means that recreational space visits might become more common, in turn eventually leading to the colonization of the solar system’s more inhabitable moons and planets.

Solar Power Capture Reaches 90% Efficiency

solar_power_towerEngineers have announced that solar capture techniques have been perfected to allow for greater than 90% efficiency. With fossil fuel reserves nearly depleted and natural gas production halted after the incineration of a Queensland suburb in a fracking disaster, the World Governing Council declared a state of emergency in 2256. A mandatory blackout for non-essential power demands has left the world in near-darkness for much of the last decade.

Severe drought and high winds have scrubbed lands of vegetation and animal life. Scientists and engineers hope to use these arid lands for large fields of interconnected photo-voltaic cells capable of harnessing the sun’s energy and converting it to usable power for the world. “The once familiar lights of our fair metropolitans may once again be visible from the Lunar Habitat as a beacon in the night,” said Prelate Herbert George Bush IX of the North American Alliance after announcing construction of new solar capture fields in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.

Oregon Research Institute Scientists Find Age Gene

genomScientists at the Oregon Research Institute have isolated the gene that determines how we age as humans. Locating the gene is the first step in creating longer lives for people throughout the world.

Casey Grant, head researcher of the institute, claims that by next year we will have the capability of creating a 50 year longer life span in humans. The scientists have not only found the gene, but have inhibited the effects on the body.

“The life of human beings can be expanded by at least fifty years in the next year or so,” states Grant. From there, we could see the life span cover a range of another fifty or so years. We could have humans living well into 200 years on the average.”

Grant and Raymond Becker, leading scientists at the institute, have been working on locating the gene that can determine weight, when they stumbled upon the aging gene.
